Slime is made when boron mixes with the polymer chains in the glue, creating strong, but flexible bonds between the molecules.

There are so many fun tweaks you can make to a basic slime recipe, like my kid’s favorite, fluffy slime!

Since this slime does contain borax, if you have a sensitivity to it, you may want to try our baking soda slime instead.

If this is your first time making slime, you should follow along with our post on slime troubleshooting.  Luckily, liquid laundry starch slime made with clear glue is the easiest slime recipe.

If you don’t want to waste a lot of ingredients, try mixing up a small batch first to make sure you won’t have to tweak it before you make the larger version.

We always stock up on gallon sizes of glue and the large laundry starch just in case something goes wrong (but it almost always goes smoothly).

Basically, for sand slime, you’ll add about 1/2 a cup of sand to the basic 1:1: slime recipe with water, glue, and laundry starch.

For ocean slime, you’ll just add blue food coloring and glitter to the same 1:1:1 slime recipe.

Twist them together to make a spiral that is half-brown, half-blue. You can also do like we did and make a little sand island surrounded by ocean slime!

The texture of the sand slime makes it feel just like the wet sand at the beach, and the kids will love sinking the little animals and creatures right into the sand slime to make prints.

Twist the two slimes together for a beachy, stretchy look. The best part about using these specific slime recipes is that the ocean slime has a slightly different texture than the sand slime.

This means that unlike other slime recipes, these two won’t meld together right away. The separation remains, and you have two distinct layers in your slime.
