Memorial Day is a time to remember members of the military who have served and passed on. When it was closer to periods of war, this day was solemn for everyone as most people had lost someone close to them in a war.
Now, Memorial Day doesn’t affect so many personally, so I’ve seen it become more of a celebration of patriotism and military veterans, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I still believe it is important to stick to the true meaning of the holiday.
This Memorial Day penmanship worksheet does just that. Use this worksheet along with thematic units for Memorial Day!
Memorial Day Penmanship Worksheet
The worksheet contains a poem by Emily Toma. The poem goes:
Remember those who served before
Remember those who are no more
Remember those who serve today
Remember them as we eat and play
Remember our protectors-
who are not home today
Remember them all on Memorial Day
This worksheet allows children in grades K-2 to write out the poem, first tracing it and then writing it on their own. Since the poem is so simple, many kids should be able to memorize most of the poem when they are finished.
