🍎 Apples originally come from Central Asia, but now they are grown all over the world.
🍏 Ever wonder why apples float in water? It’s because 25% of their volume is air!
🍎 China grows more apples than any other country in the world.
🍏 Apples can be stored for a long time. Some can even stay fresh for over a year if kept in the right conditions!
🍎 The heaviest apple ever recorded weighed 4.2 pounds (1.9 kg) – that’s as heavy as a small chihuahua!

The Lifecycle of an Apple
The life cycle of an apple is fascinating and can even be used as part of your apple games for kids.
Here is how an apple grows from a seed, to a tree, to an apple, and back to a seed!
You can’t grow an apple tree without an apple seed. Once planted, apple seeds have the potential to grow into new apple trees.
The process of germination is how seeds turn into seedlings.
After an apple seed is planted and given the right conditions (like water, sunlight, and the right temperature), the seed will sprout.
A small root grows downward while a stem with tiny leaves pushes up toward the sunlight.
As the sprouted seed grows, it becomes a young tree or sapling. The sapling needs lots of care: enough sunlight, water, and nutrients from the soil.
It takes between 3-6 years for a sapling to become a mature tree.
A mature apple tree produces flowers, which, if pollinated, turn into apples. Apple flowers can be white or pink and have a sweet fragrance.
For apple trees to produce apples, they usually need pollen from another apple tree.
Bees and other insects visit flowers for nectar and, in the process, transfer pollen from one flower to another.
Once a flower is pollinated, the petals fall off, and the base of the flower starts to grow into an apple.
Over the summer months, these tiny baby apples grow bigger and bigger.
When apples are juicy, colorful, and fully grown, it’s time to pick them.
This is what you probably think of when imagining an apple orchard in the fall: trees heavy with bright, delicious apples.
Seed to Seed
When animals (including humans) eat apples and discard apple seeds, or when apples fall and decompose, those seeds might find their way into the soil.
The whole apple life cycle can then start again, giving birth to a new apple tree.
