Monkey and I have spent a lot of time watching Youtube challenge videos. The hosts on the shows are always trying silly and fun games.
We decided to host our own version of STEM minute to win it games on a recent rainy day for some classic, screen-free activity time and STEM games for kids!
What are STEM Minute to Win It Games?
A classic minute-to-win-it game offers a quick challenge or game where competitors race against the clock and each other to complete a task.
A STEM minute to win it game operates on the same idea, the kids just have to try STEM-based challenges that include building challenges, math challenges, physics challenges, and other STEM-themed challenges!
Minute to win it STEM challenges are a fun break from longer STEM activities and are a particular hit with the upper elementary and middle school age sets.
Keep reading to read about the challenges and shop the supply list before getting started!
What You Need for Minute to Win It STEM Challenges
I had a bunch of stale marshmallows lying around from when we made marshmallow constellations, so I decided to use what we had and create kids minute to win it games using marshmallows as the main ingredient.

Minute to Win It STEM Activities
Kids will love these STEM minute to win it games! Give your STEM activities a fun game twist!
All of these activities include the use of marshmallows, and are fun games to play with marshmallows with or without the STEM element.
Minute to Win It STEM Game 1: Marshmallow Toss
Set Up:
Place three disposible cups in a row. Place two more cups in front and one final cup in front of that to make a triangle.
Cups in the back are worth 5 points, the middle cups are worth 2 points and the final cup is worth one cup.
How to Play:
Set a timer for a minute. Have the kids stand about 3-4 feet away from the cups (depending on their age).
Give each child a stack of different colored marshmallows so you can tell which marshmallows belong to each child.
Instruct the kids to throw marshmallows into the cups. The child who earns the most points in a minute wins.
STEM Minute to Win It Game 2: Marshmallow Race
Set Up:
Clear a space for the game across a large room. Doing this game on carpet makes it slightly harder.
How to Play:
Give each child a straw and a marshmallow. Instruct the children to blow their marshmallows across the room. The first kid to the other side wins.
Minute to Win it STEM Activity 3: Stuff the Mold Race
Set Up:
Provide each kid with a container of marshmallows and a silicone popsicle mold.
How to Play:
Stuff the mold full of marshmallows and place the cap on the mold. The first child to finish wins.
Minute to Win it STEM Challenge Game 4: Marshmallow Balance Relay
Set Up:
Each child will need three marshmallows and a plastic knife. Set up a large area for the relay race.
How to Play:
Children must place their marshmallow on the knife, carry it across the room without dropping it, come back, and repeat for the other two marshmallows.
If you drop a marshmallow, you have to go back to the start and try again.
The first child to get all marshmallows across the room wins.
STEM Game for Kids 5: Marshmallow Transfer
Set Up:
Give each child a straw and 10 marshmallows. Each child needs two disposable cups. Put the marshmallows in one cup.
How to Play:
Children must transfer the 10 marshmallows from one cup to the other.
If they drop a marshmallow onto the ground, they must place it back in the first cup and try again.
