First, I colored each of our flower’s petals with permanent marker to make the colors of the rainbow.

We had just enough petals on our flower to cover the major color groups. Leave the center white.

Cut a circle of plastic transparency from red, yellow, blue, and clear. You can also cut a circle of black if you like.

Stick a Velcro dot to the center of the cardboard flower.

Stick a Velcro dot to the top and bottom of each transparency sheet so they can stack on top of each other.

Give the rainbow flower to your preschooler to play with. Challenge her to make a specific color on the wheel. For example, by stacking yellow and red, she can get orange.

Yellow and blue makes green! Red and blue turns into purple!

But what happens if she stacks the clear film? No color change at all!

My preschooler got a huge kick out of this activity. It is one she returns to over and over to play with.

We stored our flower in a plastic zipper bag with holes so we can keep it with all our other busy bags.

It is a lot of fun for toddlers to play with this activity and explore color mixing even at a very young age,

Little artists in particular will really enjoy this activity!
