Here are some STEM extensions and other adding to 10 activities you can do with your preschoolers alongside this addition to 10 counting game.
Frog Jump Game
Use a frog stamp or a cutout to create a starting line on a piece of paper. Children take turns rolling a dice to determine how many jumps their frog can make.
Each jump is marked on the paper. Then, preschoolers measure the total distance jumped using a ruler or non-standard units like blocks or paper clips.
Finally, the kids can add the lengths together to see if they can reach a total of 10 units.
Lily Pad Sums
Create lily pads with numbers from 0 to 10 on them and spread them out on the floor. Play music and have the children hop from one lily pad to another.
When the music stops, they must find a partner, and together, their lily pads should add up to 10.
This helps with quick addition skills and physical activity.
Frog Feeding Frenzy
Each child gets a frog cutout with a wide-open mouth and a set of insect cards numbered 1-5.
Roll a dice to determine how many more insects the frog needs to eat to make 10 in total.
Children select the correct number of insects from their cards to feed the frog so the total adds up to 10.
