How to Make LEGO Hair Clips

When it comes to fixing hair, my kids actually hate it. They aren’t big on bows or things in their hair.

But they do like LEGO.

So when my 8-year-old saw these LEGO barrettes, she was excited to try and make them!

Supplies to Make LEGO Barrettes

It doesn’t take a lot of supplies to make these LEGO barrettes. You can keep them simple like we did here, or you can make them fancier with more bricks!

It’s up to your builder to decide!

Why Are There Special LEGO Bricks for Girls?

This question bugs a lot of people, but in the end, it probably comes down to money. LEGO can make more money if sisters and brothers have their own LEGO sets.

I’ve noticed that most of the “classic” LEGO sets are definitely marketed to boys (which is not something I am happy about), so it makes sense from a marketing prospective to have LEGO bricks for girls as well.

But, we don’t believe in girl things or boy things at STEAMsational, which is why most of the LEGO builds that we do here are made using classic LEGO bricks.

Even these LEGO hair clips aren’t just for girls. Plenty of boys would love to put some fun LEGO pieces in their hair to show the world how much they love LEGO!

LEGO Hair Clips Directions

Place a small piece of foil or waxed paper between the clips of your barrette, this will keep it from being glued shut while you work.

Add a generous amount of hot glue to the back center of your LEGO pieces and then press it down firmly onto the long flat part your alligator clip, right up against the piece where you pinch it open.

Allow glue to cool so that it is hardened completely.

While you are waiting for tie a small piece of ribbon into a bow and trim to your desired length, repeat for the other barrette.

Glue bows at the end of the lego onto the barrette, allow it to cool.

You can leave your LEGO barrettes simple and as is or add a few small LEGO pieces, or even minifigures to add a little more pop of color. How to customize and make LEGO hair clips is up to you!

Once you learn how to make LEGO hair clips, you can make dozens of LEGO barrettes in different colors and wear them year-round, or give them to friends!
