Did you know that you don’t have to use contact lens solution to make slime? It’s true! There are many other slime activators that work much, much better! My kids love the texture of fluffy slime the most, which is why we are making it all the time! If you want my foolproof recipe, keep reading to learn how to make shaving cream slime without contact solution. This fluffy slime recipe is part of our slime recipes without contact solution series.
One of the most frustrating aspects about making slime at home is that so many of the recipes require contact lens solution. We don’t use contacts in this house, and not all contact solution formulas will allow slime to “gel.”
As a result, I’m always on the lookout for slime recipes that don’t require contact lens solution so that my kids can create slime without getting upset or ruining supplies. And this fluffy slime recipe is a hit with my entire family, from teen to preschooler!
The unpredictability of contact solution slime formulas is another issue we’ve observed. They can make slime that is sticky, messy, or even a bit gross since it doesn’t “gel” properly.
You don’t want to take that chance if you’ve ever spent more than an hour washing slime out of a sofa.
P.S. If this happens to you, don’t panic. With a little warm water, soap, and a scraping implement, slime may be scraped right out of cloth (I used the backside of a butter knife).
My Foolproof Recipe for How to Make Shaving Cream Slime Without Contact Solution
When you make fluffy slime, all you need is a slime activator, some glue (white usually works best), liquid laundry starch, shaving cream, and some soap dye!
If you want to make slime that looks like ours, you will need neon pink, neon orange, and bright blue dye.
What Can You Use Instead of Contact Solution for Slime?
You can replace contact lens solution with one of three slime activators when you are following this recipe for how to make shaving cream slime without contact solution. The following slime activators are among our favorites:
Each of these activators produces a slime with a distinct texture. The thickest slime is made with borax powder, which also reduces slime stickiness and mess.
Liquid laundry starch makes slime that is always consistent and has the texture of classic slime or gak.
Elmer’s slime activator is a mix of borax slime and liquid laundry starch slime that works nicely with any form of glue.
