Christmas Slime Science
Christmas slime recipes are about more than just having a fun thing to play with.
First of all, slime is a wonderful way to help children foster a love of science and chemistry.
Slime is a chemical reaction between materials in the glue and the borax in the laundry starch or borax.
This reaction alters the chemical bond of the materials, combining them into long polymer chains.
This process is similar to how most flexible plastics are made today. We make a Christmas version of slime because it’s a fun way to combine science and sensory experiences with the current season.
Slime is also wonderful for kiddos who are sensory seeking, particularly for kids with SPD, autism, and ADHD.

If you’re new to slime, definitely read this guide on what do you need to make slime. And if you need more help, check out these slime troubleshooting guide.
If you’re in a bit of a rush though, no worries, just remember that brands matter when making slime.
We will not make slime unless we have Elmer’s glue on hand, Good food coloring (that’s a brand), and Sta-flo laundry starch (unless we’re making an unusual slime recipe, like edible taffy slime).
While there are other ways to make slime, like how to make slime with baking soda– how to make slime with liquid starch is by far our favorite recipe, and we will always recommend using it above any other recipe.
