What are the Benefits of Slime?
Valentine slime recipes are about more than just having fun with stretchy, slimy slime. Slime is a wonderful way to help children foster a love of science and chemistry.
Slime is formed when a chemical reaction between materials in the glue and the boron in the laundry starch or borax. This reaction alters the chemical bond of the materials, combining them into long polymer chains. This process is similar to how most flexible plastics are made today.
We make a Valentine’s Day version of slime because it’s a fun way to combine science and sensory experiences with Valentine’s Day!
Slime is also wonderful for kiddos who are sensory seeking, particularly for kids with SPD, autism, and ADHD.

If you’re in a bit of a rush though, just remember that brands matter when making slime. We will not make slime unless we have Elmer’s glue on hand, Good food coloring (that’s a brand we love), and Sta-flo laundry starch (unless we’re making an unusual slime recipe, like taffy slime).
While there are other ways to make slime, like with Borax powder and baking soda (we’ve never gotten contact lens slime to work), laundry starch slime is by far our favorite, and we will always recommend using it above any other recipe.

Confetti Slime with Clear Glue Directions
Follow these steps to make your own Valentine confetti slime.
Mix 1 part glue with 1 part water.
Add glitter and heart confetti. The more confetti and glitter you add, the darker the slime will turn out. You can also add food coloring at this point, but we chose to keep the slime clear for our version.
Mix well.
Add one part sta-flo to the mixture and stir. Keep stirring until the slime pulls away from the edge of the container.
Remove the slime from the container and stretch it and pull it until it is no longer sticky.
Let the kids stretch and play with the slime, using their heart container or hands.
