WHAT ARE THEMATIC UNITS?
A thematic unit is simply a collection of educational tools around a central theme. Thematic units can contain a variety of educational topics, including science, social studies, language arts, math, engineering, art, and more.
I like to teach with thematic units because I feel like kids tend to engage with subjects more when they have a fun theme. Plus, who doesn’t like bringing a bit of holiday flair into the classroom?
You can use many of these activities in self-guided centers for your kids, including math centers, literacy centers, STEM centers, and more.

Why are Seasonal Activities Important?

There are a lot of thematic units covering evergreen topics. So many that you probably will never reach the end of them. So why bother doing seasonal themes?
I like doing seasonal thematic units with my kids because it adds an educational element to our holiday celebrations. Rather than just doing a seasonal craft, we tailor our reading and math activities to match the current season or holiday.
Seasonal-based activities also provide a way to engage kids who might be bored of learning using traditional worksheets and textbooks. A worksheet with just math facts on it is boring. But if you have to solve the math facts to discover the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, then the math is fun
